Vintage Cast-Iron Wheel Coffee Grinder
A manual coffee grinder with a cast-iron wheel, adjustable ceramic grinding core, wooden base, and pull-out grounds drawer.

accessories · MM014
The entry grinder in the range: a 304 stainless body with a ceramic burr, 18.6 cm tall and 242 g in the hand. Adjustment is a single star knob on the base — turn it clockwise and the gap closes, anticlockwise and it opens, with no clicks to count. That suits anyone who grinds by eye rather than by recipe: the supplier's own guide runs from French press at the coarse end through siphon and pour-over to moka at the fine end. The whole grinder comes apart by hand and can be rinsed under the tap, which is the part that matters on a grinder at this price. The supplier also makes a 13.6 cm short version; this page is the tall one.

Supplier photographs of the product itself, the parts that decide how it works and the details a specification table cannot show.

01
A ceramic burr cuts without building heat the way a steel burr can, and heat is what drives the aromatics off before the coffee ever meets water. The supplier's claim on this panel is exactly that: it grinds cool and the aroma stays. Ceramic is also the reason this grinder can be rinsed — it does not rust.

02
The adjuster is a star knob on the base rather than a numbered ring. Clockwise closes the gap, anticlockwise opens it, and nothing clicks into a detent. That is either the best or the worst part of this grinder depending on how you brew: you dial it until the grind looks right, then remember where it was.

03
The supplier's guide starts at French press on the coarse end, then siphon, pour-over and moka at the fine end. Four ground samples photographed at each stop, so you can compare against what comes out of your own grinder rather than guessing at a number.

04
The body unscrews by hand and the burr assembly lifts out, so the grounds that pack into the corners come out under a tap instead of with a brush. On a cheap grinder this is the whole difference between one that lasts years and one that gets thrown out when the coffee starts tasting stale.
