The basket sets what the shot can be
The basket is the part that decides dose, resistance and how much the puck can be pushed. A single takes 8-12 g, a double 16-20 g, and a straight-walled double 20-28 g — that last one is the one to fit with a bottomless portafilter, because the wall has to be straight all the way down. A blind basket has no holes at all: fill it with cleaner and the water is forced back up through the group, which is how a machine gets cleaned rather than descaled. Base diameter and depth are printed on every listing here; a basket that does not match the group will not seal.
