Knock Boxes

Where the puck goes, and how loud it is

A knock box is a bin with a bar across it, and the differences that matter are size, bar material and where it lives. A counter box takes a home session and sits beside the grinder. A commercial box stands on the floor, is deeper and taller, and is sized so a full basket clears the rim without bending. The bar decides the noise: a steel tube rings, a rubber-sleeved one does not, and the rubber is also what stops the basket lip chipping over months of use. One version here adds a tamping seat on the corner, which removes a separate mat from the counter.

  • Counter or floor-standing, by how many shots a day
  • Rubber-sleeved bar versus bare steel, for noise and basket life
  • Whether it needs to do a second job, such as a tamping seat
